Stories Goody Goody

Goody Goody grew from one small liquor store in 1964 into 25 locations, and its warehouse couldn't keep up. As the product range expanded, shelves needed constant restocking, products were hard to find, and there wasn't room to display everything.

Goody Goody needed a smarter way to store inventory, make better use of its retail space, and get products to customers faster. That's where Pio came in.

More store. Less storage.

The Challenge

In 1964, Goody Goody's founder bought a small liquor store. More than 60 years later, that one store has grown into 25 locations, and the product range has grown with it. With retail floor space at a premium and the store already at its limit, the team needed to fit more inventory into the space they had.

Then there was the restocking. Keeping the shelves full was a job in itself, and every hour spent on it was an hour not spent with customers.

"There was a tremendous amount of restocking. We used to have to have 2–3 people who did nothing but stock and tend."

Roshi Muns
Director of Sales at Goody Goody

With so much variety, finding the right product could take time, keeping customers waiting and making inventory harder to manage. Goody Goody needed a solution that could fit more inventory into the store and get products to customers faster.

The Solution

With Pio, Goody Goody can fit and display more products in the space they already have, without having to move or expand the store. Instead of keeping multiple units of every product on display, the team only needs one of each.

The rest stays inside the Pio grid until it’s needed. That also means less time spent restocking shelves and searching for products, so staff can stay where customers need them while Pio brings the right products to them.

Pio also supports Goody Goody’s in-store order fulfillment. Customers can scan products in the aisles with Goody Goody’s website app, and their orders are packed while they shop. By the time they reach the register, their order can be ready to go.

“The customer experience has improved. There's fewer aisles, and so there's more time to browse and discover new products. There's immediate access to our inventory. It's transparent. There's no guessing.”

Director of Sales at Goody Goody

Results and Impact

After implementing Pio, the impact was immediate:

  • More room to sell
Goody Goody uses 50% less retail space for inventory, leaving more room for products and customers.

  • Less manual work
Receiving and shelf replenishment are down 80%, so the team can spend more time with customers.

  • Less product theft
Goody Goody reports a 95% reduction in theft, with inventory stored in Pio and retrieved when needed.

  • Faster product retrieval
With an average wait time of 25 seconds per SKU, products come directly to staff, reducing time spent searching for inventory.

  • A wider product selection
With a higher SKU count, Goody Goody can offer customers more choice in the same retail space.

“We focus a lot more on the customers. There's always somebody on the floor. I have good conversations.”

Edwin
Floor Manager at Goody Goody

Unexpected Benefits

Beyond space and speed, Pio has changed the day-to-day experience for customers and employees.

  • A better way to shop
With fewer aisles and more open space, customers have more room to browse and discover new products.

  • No more guessing
The team has better visibility into what's in stock and where to find it, with less searching and guesswork.

  • A team that embraced automation
Employees were hesitant about automation at first. Once they saw how much easier it made their jobs, that changed.

Looking Ahead

Goody Goody continues to look at how retail automation can help the team make better use of its space, manage inventory, and improve the customer experience. With Pio in place, the team can offer more products without needing more retail space, while spending less time restocking and searching for inventory.

The store has changed, but the focus is still the same: giving customers more choice and better customer service.
