Growing a business with Pio at Dapper
As a smaller retailer, you can be at a disadvantage when it comes to technology. Now Dapper is on a more level playing field. With Pio, they can focus on improving their customer service and product knowledge, instead of spending time worrying about all the logistics. To find out more, we talked to Andreas Doppelmayr, founder and CEO of Dapper and Barbershop.no (Oslo, Norway).

“The installation process was surprisingly quick. They started on a Tuesday night and by Friday, the whole warehouse was fully functioning.”
Dapper goes way back to 2006, starting out as Andreas’ side gig selling barber shop accessories online from his dorm room during his studies. Fastforward and it’s transformed into a multi-brand concept. By now, Andreas has over 16 years of expertise in e-commerce and retail, and he oversees both websites for Barbershop and Dapper, still finding the time to supervise the physical stores and a café/bar in Oslo. Dapper and Pio teamed up in 2021 to transform Dapper’s traditional shelf-based warehouse into a fully automated one — and cut down the storage footprint four times. “The installation process was surprisingly quick. They started on a Tuesday night and by Friday, the whole warehouse was fully functioning,” explained Andreas. As someone who’s been in the business for a while, he’s also super happy about finally having ‘cutting edge’ hardware available for small to medium-sized businesses — something usually reserved for much larger companies.

“Now that everything goes inside this ‘magic box’, you don’t even need to think about the products until you actually need them.”
Prior to Pio, Andreas’ warehouse set up was pretty much ‘as good as it gets’ when it comes to a manual one: shelves with barcodes, a trolley and a tablet. The work necessary to maintain it however was endless — replenishing products by hand and finding their proper locations led to continuous system faults, and a lot of time wasted getting it all in and out of their warehouse. “Now that everything goes inside this “magic box”, you don’t even need to think about the products before you actually need them.” Things changed a lot since getting Pio — Andreas’ business improved in various ways; the number of employees needed and the time it takes to unpack new products have both reduced by 75%. With all that time saved, his warehouse employees now have a variety of opportunities to develop in other areas within the company. Orders are now packed efficiently and faster than ever, and estimated order delivery times have decreased significantly, contributing to a next-level customer experience. Because Pio means you can keep your warehouse in-house, not having to relocate meant all of Dapper’s facilities and employees have stayed in the heart of Oslo — no more time spent on inefficient things like cargo transport. Andreas can now grow his inventory four times in a warehouse he once thought was already full.
